
Good Morning Afghanistan , is the first public service radio outlet in Afghanistan launched on 25 February 2002 , with an aim to help the democratic development of Afghanistan via promoting and strengthening freedom of speech and independent media in the country. As a free and impartial media, GMA currently consists of two daily one-hour programs of “Good Morning Afghanistan” and “Good Evening Afghanistan” being broadcast on the national network of Radio Afghanistan . GMA is aired from 0630 to 0730 hours and GEA from 1800 to 1900 hours, on MW 1107 KHz in all over Afghanistan , and on FM 93 & 105 MHz in Kabul . The program content includes news; current affairs, informative, educational, analytical, and entertaining reports and features as well as sports and music. All programs are also available on GMA's Dari/Pashto website, which is www.gma.com.af .
Over the past four years, GMA received its core funding from the Awa Nama Productions in Afghanistan .

A focus group study carried out in seven provinces of Afghanistan ( Kabul , Herat , Jozjan, Wardak, Laghman, Logar, Baghlan) showed GMA to be the third major media outlet being listened to by 61.14% of the people compared to Radio liberty listened to by 65.29% and BBC by 64.05%. In addition, GMA is being reviewed and listened to over the internet. The latest monthly statistics is as follows: visits: 7229; pages reviewed: 25663; files opened: 123132 ; hits: 247320.

Daily Programs
News
GMA news services bring you the latest developments in Afghanistan , in the region and in the world. GMA broadcasts are on-the-air four times daily in Dari and Pashto, the five-minute news services discuss important political, social and cultural events. Like any other programming on GMA, news gathering is carried out on the basis of basic journalistic principles such as impartiality, accuracy and balanced reporting.
You can listen to news services on GMA at 0630 in Dari and 0700 hours in Pashto and on GEA at 0600 in Pashto and 0630 hours in Dari; or anytime during the day via the internet.

Weekly Programs
You and the President
Being the first initiative of this kind in the Afghan media history, our program You and the President establishes direct contact between the people and their president.
GMA collects listener's questions on various political issues as well as very personal queries from the average citizen bringing them to the attention of Mr. Hamid Karzai. He usually chooses a number of points to be raised and answered during a particular week. The aim of the 15 minute program is to address major unsolved issues and grievances people would want their president to be aware of and discuss openly. The program has proven to be one of the most effective bridges linking the people with their government via a media outlet. The program is aired on Fridays on GMA at 0745 and on GEA at 1810 hours. The Voice
A program especially designed to address Afghan civil society issues, particularly topic human rights. It contributes to educating people on civil society and human rights.
The program not only addresses and features values enshrined in the constitution, but also points at critical cases and human rights violations. This program may run for up to 40 minutes. Its format is mostly that of a live talk show to which relevant guests and experts are invited; they discuss a particular topic and answer questions asked live by the audience over the phone. Listening to the program, one may gauge GMA's popularity and listener ship by their questions often coming in not only from Afghanistan , but also from Pakistan , the Iran and sometimes even from the UAE. The Voice is broadcast on GEA's Friday shows.
Nawa-e-Nai (Sound of The Flute)
Nawa-e-Nai casts a glance at Afghanistan 's cultures, arts and literature. Best writers, artists and poets. This program format features our artists works and achievements in the fields of writing, fine arts and poetry. This program may run for up to 13 minutes. You can listen to Nawa-e-Nai on Sundays and Thursdays during the second half of GEA program.
The 7 th Art (The Cinema)
America 's Hollywood forms a big part of the world's opinion today. And India 's Bollywood has been turning into a major entertainer of all sorts of people in Asia and Europe if not beyond. But what is the position and what the role of the Afghan cinema today? Our program called The 7 th Art is trying to answer this question. The program is made up of news, reviews and criticisms of Afghan films, interviews with actors, and more. The 11-minute slot is aired on Tuesdays in the second half of GEA program.
Consultation and Guidance
A consultative guide to healthy child raising as well as issues facing the younger generation, with a particular focus on marriage and after-marriage life.
The book, Healthy Child Rearing, was produced out of discussions on Consultation and Guidance program.
Finding solutions to mental stress caused by social disorders, economic problems and cultural barriers are also part of the aims that this show follows. The program is running for up to 15 minute each week and broadcast on Saturdays on both, GMA and GEA shows; sometime it is held live with audience participation via phone calls. A book called “A Consultative Guide to Healthy Child Rearing” was produced and published out of 50 shows carried out on the topic.
Afghanistan on National & International Press
The national and international press is reviewed and main parts of the most interesting and important editorials and news stories will be picked and made into a 7 to 10 minute weekly program being broadcast each Saturday on GMA. A shorter daily version has just been launched, additionally.
Pakhta Paranak (Spill the Beans)
Pakhta Paranak is a satirical slot looking into political and social issues. Its outline is critical, but entertaining. It is broadcast on GMA's Friday show at 0815 hours and may run for about 10 minutes.
The Message of the Week
This 10-minute slot discusses the hot and the most critical topic of the week related mostly to burning social, economic, educational or health issues. Whenever there seems to be urgent need for an improvement of the situation, the program tries to suggest solutions. It is broadcast every Tuesday in the first half of GMA program.
Human and the Latest Achievements
An informative, but also entertaining program. It collects the most interesting news of the latest developments and achievements in the fields of science and technology. The blocks are shaped into 7-minute program slots being broadcast every Monday during GEA's second half.
Learning with the Youth
A 5 to 7-minute program designed to supply basic educational information to kids and youths. The topics:
social behaviour, as well as systematic learning and playing methods. The makers of the program interact successfully with kids. The main characters of the slot are children and youths. The program is on air every Saturday and Wednesday on GEA. The shows present the kids' reports and mini-dramas produced by themselves. They once surprised the Afghan president with a 30-minute interview, in which they criticized the president on his children policy.
Hard Talk of the Week
A 30-minute live round-table during which the hottest topics of the week are discussed together with analysts, observers and Afghan officials.
The topics covered are most political, economic, and sometimes social and cultural too. The round table is held on Thursdays at the second of GEA show.
The Evil Seed
The Evil Seed aims at promoting the struggle against narcotics and its cultivation all over the country, encouraging people and institutions to respect and enforce existing laws, and so helping spread the rule of law and shaping a sound society. The 8-minute provincial program is to be broadcast on Good Morning Afghanistan on Wednesdays.
Sazendagee (Construction)
The 10-minute program segment is produced from one province each week showing how construction and reconstruction works change people's lives, results in the development of rural and urban areas, and eventually leading to spread the system social welfare in the country. The program is to be broadcast on Thursdays on Good Morning Afghanistan program.
